March 1945: Thanks to his personal friendship with Colonel Brigadier Masson, WS is able to shelter his family in Switzerland
Source: in war room 14.8.45 p 1. The document is known as the Trosan document (name of the pension where WS was sheltered in Sweden)
Par ailleurs le 4 Avril 1945
Following Bernadotte and WS’s joined work, the relatives of General Giraud are released at Himmler’s order (there is serious suspicion that they had been kidnapped at WS order: very much is style).
Masson contacts Dulles asking again if he “had any interest in making contact with Schellenberg of German SD. I replied our interest was unconditional surrender of German forces and that any contact with WS seemed quite futile. WS’s idea was apparently time-worn one of opening west front but holding east front. I told Masson west front was already opened up without WS’s help.”
Dulles erroneously analyzes that “WS is obviously attempting to buy immunity as he has just delivered Gen. Giraud’s family to Masson, who repatriated them to France, and is apparently prepared to release further women and children.” WS feels no guilt. He just protects a very small hope for a ministerial position in a defeated Germany but knows that he has much better ammunitions to get personally released if it turns as bad as expected.
